On Wednesday, February 6, the California Coastal Commission (CCC) will hear the application for the Foothill-South toll road that will run through San Onofre State Park.
This project threatens precious coastal open space, water quality and the surf break at Trestles, and it would set a dangerous precedent for YOUR State Park system.
Join hundreds (if not thousands) of Surfrider Foundation activists and other opponents of the toll road for a rally at the CCC hearing. Come help us send a clear message that our State Parks and open spaces deserve saving!
This is literally THE most important hearing in regards to protecting Trestles and San Onofre State Park. We need an enormous crowd to attend. Please help spread the word to all your family and friends in Southern California.
The Surfrider Foundation and partners are renting buses and organizing carpools in San Clemente and San Diego. We are also providing food, tee shirts, and posters/sign for all supporters. Surfrider has it all organized—you just need to show up.

With all the Save Trestles banners I was wondering if it's gonna be seen as a "surfer only" issue.. May I suggest some bring signs that say, "Save San O.." or something that lets 'em know that this isn't just a sediment issue..

I want to be there for this but can't take the entire day off....what time is the meeting? How long should it last? What is the most critical time to show all our numbers? What entrance/or where on the grounds will we convene? Just a little more info would be great....

ReplyDelete...skating the trail with a cool breeze pushing you to the point, knowing its going to be another amazing day at a place we used to call LOWERS. when it is on its so good it still gives me the chills. Maybe If a few more of us would have showed up at the BIG WEDNESDAY coastal commission hearings in Del Mar, we could still feel the cool breeze on our necks,feel the rush of excitement Knowing its GOING OFF and you are going to get a few hours of Mother natures Finest and you are stoked... SO STOKED.
Then they built the Toll Road... OR NOT.
Kiss Trestles good by OR Show up in Del Mar and stop them from taking Trestles, SAN"O", the marsh and the enviroment. ALL PART OF "THE PUBLIC COMMONS" and give it to a private corperation at our tax expence for their gain with no bennies for us.

My first of many, many Trestles adventures and sessions was back in 1969. It is still as special a place now than it was back then, almost 40 years ago. today my son and grandaughter enjoy it just i have all these years. I fear the politicians are going to think this is just a surfing issue. It goes way beyond the great waves it has to offer. It's about families like yours and mine getting to enjoy one of the last unspoiled and magical beaches our state has to offer for years to come. I truly hope that the CCC will actually hear what we have to say. See you in Del Mar!

ReplyDeleteIt sounds like being there by 9am is very important.. I'm guessing that's when the Commission will look up from their desks and go.. "Holy crap!" and see the opposition to this ill-conceived road.

ReplyDeleteThis is more then a surfing issue it's a MORAL issue too! We can't let corpo greed bulldoze OUR state parks just to kick the govner a few bucks. If this gets through then what message does that send. I do surf and nothing makes me happier then sharing the experience with my wife and 3 kids too. So i'm taking my kids out of school to come to the meeting as an entire family to show the CCC how much that precious land means to us. We live here in SC and there is so much going on these days to ruin our great beach town so now it's time to stand up and fight for our kids future. SEE U ALL THERE!!!

ReplyDeletehello since alot of you are all meeting tomorrow, i want to give some more imfo on why the toll road should not be built. that field where it junctions with the 5 freeway is the indian "acjachemen" zone. that area has so many indian sites. to put it planly that whole field, including the christanitos baptism monument, and north to ortega hwy. should be given back to the native americans , who still exist today, and are 1 year out from potentially being recognized as a nation. at which point they have the first rights to purchase that whole ranch/farmland. enough said. that is real preservation

The people at Surfrider and Friends of the Foothills are to be commended for their successful efforts in getting the 3000 or so people to the meeting, giving us tee shirts to visually indicate what we stand for and feeding us a nice lunch. Great organization. Thankfully the coastal commission voted AGAINST the toll road!!! There may still be more fights ahead but we have put another roadblock in front of the road!!!
